Integrative Psychotherapist & CBT Specialist | Author | Developer of the ReAlign Within™ Method
Journey from being a banker to an Integrative psychotherapist
Before she became a psychotherapist, Dr. Vinaya Prabha spent three years in corporate banking. It was enough. Not because the work was without reward, but because she could already see, from the inside, what achievement without self-understanding costs — in the people around her, and in herself. She left. She pursued a PhD in Psychology at the University of Delhi, and she has spent every year since in the work that followed that choice: understanding the self that hides beneath what we build.
For over three decades, Dr. Vinaya Prabha has practiced as a integrative psychotherapist and CBT specialist and as one of India's earliest online counsellors, working with clients remotely since 2009 when the concept was still unfamiliar. In 2008, she founded the Centre for Self-Awakening in Bangalore: a space that brought together psychotherapy, experiential learning, and community wellbeing at a time when integrative psychological practice in India was still finding its language.
The ReAlign Within™ framework — the therapeutic backbone of this practice — was not designed at a desk. It emerged from 30+ years of direct, intensive therapeutic work: from the patterns Dr. Vinaya observed repeating across thousands of client hours, from the questions that kept returning about identity, adaptation, and what lies beneath achievement. The framework is her attempt to give structure to something she had been doing intuitively for years: helping people find their way back to themselves.
The question I have always brought to the work is not 'what is wrong with you'. It is 'what happened to you — and who were you before it did?'
In 2024, Dr. Vinaya Prabha brought that question into a different form: a novel. Unbroken: Becoming Herself — her debut work of fiction — is drawn directly from 30+ years of therapeutic practice. It tells the story of a woman's journey from coercive control and identity erosion back to herself: a narrative that carries the emotional and psychological truth of the ReAlign Within™ framework in the form most likely to reach people who are not yet ready to name what they are living as something that requires help.
Dr. Vinaya's conviction that psychological wellbeing belongs to communities, not only to consulting rooms, has threaded through her entire career. As Director of the Vistara Foundation, she led an NGO dedicated to psychological and social empowerment. Between 2008 and 2011, she ran Koham — a monthly community circle of urban professionals in Bangalore. In June 2026, she restarted that community as The Within Circle.
Alongside her practice, Dr. Vinaya Prabha has held Associate Professor and Visiting Faculty roles at institutions including T. John College of Management, Alliance Business Academy, Xavier Institute of Management, and Banjara Academy. She has delivered keynote addresses at IMA Hubballi, KLE Technological University, and IAP Bhavan Hassan, and has trained executives at organisations including Tata Infotech, Dell, Titan, MacMillan, and Cognizant.

Psychotherapist & CBT Therapist, RCI Licensed Rehabilitation Psychologist | Programme Lead
A relational attunement that creates safety before a single technique is introduced.
Dr. Himani Upadhyaya is a psychotherapist and RCI licensed Rehabilitation Psychologist with seventeen years of experience working alongside Dr. Vinaya Prabha, a collaboration that began in Bangalore in 2009 and has shaped, in equal measure, the practice and the practitioner. Her academic journey took her from a degree in Psychology and English Literature at Christ College, Bangalore, to a Master's in Counselling Psychology at SNDT Women's University, Mumbai, and ultimately to a PhD from Banaras Hindu University, where her doctoral research explored personality factors in depression through the lens of Indian psychology.
Within the practice, Dr. Himani brings a particular gift for making the complex feel accessible. Clients consistently describe her as warm, reassuring, and deeply calming: a presence that helps them feel safe enough to do the harder work. She leads discovery calls, conducts therapeutic sessions grounded in the ReAlign Within™ integrative framework, and specializes in psychoeducation, helping clients understand their own patterns in language that is clear, human, and free of jargon. As an RCI licensed psychologist, she is also qualified to administer a wide range of non-diagnostic psychometric assessments, including The ReAlign Profile.
Beyond her work with clients, Dr. Himani has spent the past four years taking psychological wellness into the community, conducting stress management workshops across degree colleges and at the University of Allahabad, and facilitating parenting workshops for families. This outreach reflects the conviction that drives her therapy practice: that insight, offered in the right language and spirit, can reach anyone.
